MorganAlley Intelligent Website monitoring

Website Monitoring

There are lots of services (some of them are even free!) which will monitor your website for you. The thing is they don’t really tell you much that’s actually useful. We will monitor your website 24/7 to make sure it’s up and in good working order, but do so in ways that tell you a lot of useful info. The MorganAlley server constellation will poll your website regularly (depending upon your purchased service level), time how long it takes to connect to it, how long it takes to download the page and compare that page to our stored page fingerprint to be sure it hasn’t been hacked or defaced. If anything is wrong we will let you know right away. We will also send you regular reports of the sites performance.

This service help you answer several important questions:

Is your website up?

This is an easy question to answer as long as you have the time to constantly look and check. But is this what you want to be doing all day? What will you do if a server goes down in the middle of the night when your Asian/American/European customers are trying to get to your website? We can do the watching for you. Our servers don’t go to sleep and take care of the job for you 24/7/365. This gives you the peace of mind to know we’re worrying about it so you don’t have to. Whenever you are back to your computer you can access statistics of your site’s performance anytime.

How to know right away if your site has been hacked

What would happen if someone broke into your webserver and changed your homepage? Better, who would tell you about it? A competitor? Your Managing Director? We all hope it never happens but if it does we can let you know as soon as it happens, giving you crucial time to respond. If you wish we can immediately switch the homepage over to a backup copy we host for you, or re-direct all your traffic to a secondary site. The nice thing is no one will ever know this but you but it will give you time to fix the server correctly without your site being down.

Does it take potential customers too long to get to my site?

All of our monitoring customers are provided with statistics stating how long it took to connect to their site, how long it took to download their site and graphs detailing the relative performance over time. We will also track the relative performance of your website vis-a-vis up to 3 competitors for our Gold and Platinum customers. This is useful for determining where bottlenecks in the infrastructure are, and devising ways to optimise your site performance.

  • Website Resilience

  • Is your website invisible? Can (or really, do) people actually see it? Now this may sound ridiculous (especially if you've just had a quick look at your site just to be sure!) but according to research by Startups.co.uk reported on The Register at least half of small businesses with an online presence are missing out on sales due to a lack of search engine marketing skill.

  • We’ve known how to get pages up in the search engines for years, haven’t we? Put in good meta tags, write good content and get lots of inbound links - as many as possible, and as quickly as possible. Right?

  • Many is the website that was coded and uploaded, saying exactly what the owner wanted to say….and hasn’t been touched since. It’s nothing more than a brochure for the person or organisation and if their message changes then they will change their website. We believe this is a fatal mistake in website management. There are two reasons for this: 1) people buy from human beings, not fancy slogans or the right typography and graphics, and 2) most people find sites via search engines and search engines LOVE dynamic (changing, or developing) content.
